Putting all your MP3s you have ever owned (of the ones you can find) in one spot is a fantastic feeling. I have 9.8 GB of music right now, most of which I have not heard in awhile and it's dizzying just going through track after track. This after I've stopped listening to a lot of new music out now.

A few gems I have discovered that I have:

Chris Cornell's acoustic Unplugged in Sweden of his Soundgarden hit, Black Hole Sun
The two Electric Soft Parade albums I procured a year ago
Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang
All The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Sting (& The Police), Asian Dub Foundation that I own

Mmmmm...Now I am ready to go to York. :D

A great discovery while I was listening to Blitzen Trapper related artists on Last.fm is

Coconut Records

you may click on the link to view the single off of their album I just heard.

They are a band set up by Jason Schwartzmann, the guy who used to be with Phantom Planet (Californiaaaa, californiaaaa...here we commmmeeeeeee) and he is an actor seen in fine movies such as Rushmore and more recently, The Darjeeling Limited.

edit: Just discovered through wikipedia that Schwartzmann is related to the Coppola clan, what a talented bunch!

Basically Indie is it. Forget listening to anything cool and exciting on your mainstream record labels like Sony BMG and Universal like we used to in our teens. With even the best of the lot embracing Independent modes of music distribution, we can hope to see more free music, greater ease in song transfer and accessibility and a real focus on good music being made, rather than the record label manufactured crap. Sure some genres have yet to catch up, perhaps to sustain Bling in the Hip hop industry you need the mega-bucks these big corporations provide. But with even some nice rappers coming into the fold (see Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West), that may just be changing.

I heard this on Lush 99.5 FM yesterday when I was travelling and I was struck by this track...which I found hilarious

powered by ODEO

The Police vs. Snow Patrol

I must say it is quite seamlessly remixed with each other. No additional samples or tricks, just layering, echoing and a lot of painful cut-n-pasting.

I think the transformation is to my liking. I was considering doing one of those layouts with the fancy graphic in the background to set the theme but my CSS skills are limited and I thought keeping it simple is how I like things anyway.

Welcome to the new blog.

First up, you might notice some new links, and the nifty last.fm widget by your right. Of course, the colour scheme is all different and COLOURFUL, reflecting the vibrant and crazy person that I am. I hacking at the thought of that. It also helps that I am sick with the flu and the phlegm in my throat is useful for hacking at cheesy lines.

It is time for me to also reflect on how I always seem to find the time to work on my blog when I should be doing so the least. For this weekend and now it has been out of sheer boredom, when I should be at least reviewing the mixed CD i got from the forums I am on (and reworking on grad school application things, as colleague just pointed out in an IM).

Still after a long time, I feel a sense of zen today. Yes I have gazillion things on my mind, and bits of life are falling apart as I write this, but I have come to transcend to a moment of "I don't care" I quite like and could get used to. To prolong this feeling, I usually go to bed or watch TV and leave things to tomorrow.

Before I end this, I just want to document this thought,

I really want to discover more of Depeche Mode, Moloko and Prince this year.

Recently, I find MOST blogs writing about something USEFUL like global warming, the US presidential elections, food, TV, *insert interest here*. I come from the old school of "blogging for the sake of blabbing". Still I am striving to blog about useful things in the future. I think today it was going to be about how I discovered this really cool series of music compilations called "The Late Night Tales" where bands like Groove Armada, Belle & Sebastian, The Flaming Lips etc. have made mixes of music they'd listen to late at night, based on music they already like/own/listen/make. I am just thinking how the pointful blogger would review these compilations. I am going to leave it at if it's worth the tooting and hooting, I will, but first, let me listen to the darn things.

Anyway, I am signing off for now.

And yes, the extra E in savoirefaire is intentional.
