savoirefaire's BLOG
{Wednesday, September 29, 2004 . }

Oh, I attempted to put up pics on this blog but I guess I have to thumbnail them and stuff so instead, now I shall put up analysis of myself I got from Mind Media:

Sandhya, you are somewhat left-hemisphere dominant and show a preference for visual learning, although not extreme in either characteristic. You probably tend to do most things in moderation, but not always.
Your left-hemisphere dominance implies that your learning style is organized and structured, detail oriented and logical. Your visual preference, though, has you seeking stimulation and multiple data. Such an outlook can overwhelm structure and logic and create an almost continuous state of uncertainty and agitation. You may well suffer a feeling of continually trying to "catch up" with yourself.
Your tendency to be organized and logical and attend to details is reasonably well-established which should afford you success regardless of your chosen field of endeavor. You can "size up" situations and take in information rapidly. However, you must then subject that data to being classified and organized which causes you to "lose touch" with the immediacy of the problem.
Your logical and methodical nature hamper you in this regard though in the long run it may work to your advantage since you "learn from experience" and can go through the process more rapidly on subsequent occasions.
You remain predominantly functional in your orientation and practical. Abstraction and theory are secondary to application. In keeping with this, you focus on details until they manifest themselves in a unique pattern and only then work with the "larger whole."
With regards to your career choices, you have a mentality that would be good as a scientist, coach, athlete, design consultant, or an engineering technician. You can "see where you want to go" and even be able to "tell yourself," but find that you are "fighting yourself" at the darndest times.

Very very intriguing. Am glad I am training to be a scientist in Uni but hell, I am getting nowhere at it 'cos this just makes it sound like it is supposed to come easily to me. And I do appreciate being logical, and methodical etc but I hardly ever practice it myself. But I must say, this is pretty insightful. I am not going to say that all of it sounds rubbish so that makes it a pretty good online personality test.
Yay for making this blog self-indulgent. :D

College is filled with little battles, little victories have to be won everyday, every week if you are not as fortunate. I am feeling good now, having proceeded to the next round in the Inter-School debate competition within the University yesterday, and right now, having passed a really shitty test I took two weeks ago. All brings up the hope that I don't screw up tommorrow's test.
Very trivial, but pretty substantial. Having saved myself from potential crises like not having any toothpaste, to not having any team mate for yesterday's debate, I say I am doing pretty fine.
Yep, Life goes on, 'til the exams it does at least. Then that's sure and certain death.

Last day of the mid-semester break. The entire week spent, nothing quite as productive done unless you count even more debate training yesterday and watching a play and shisha on friday night at Clarke Quay and a few little things like spending hours online talking to people and learning new things about them.
Tonight, I move into the dorm room I have been waiting to get for awhile now. Making the list of things to actually bring over today is a chore in itself. And have a huge problem with not having a computer as of yet to bring over. Then there's stuff to do for school tomorrow, that I cannot bring myself to do at all.
Then, there's the fact that I can't even sleep right now, with thoughts and dreams plaguing my head, very undesirable.
On the bright side, this inability to get to sleep is spawning new bits of creativity in me. Wrote a story last night, which could be improved, but in my opinion, one of the more entertaining things I have written in awhile.
Will put it up once I type it out. :)

My brother is currently in Hurricane country. He goes to the University of New Orleans, which had evacuated for Hurricane Ivan. My brother is right now stranded in some motel miles away from the designated shelter 'cos of crazy crazy traffic out of the city. Thankfully, I just got word the hurricane missed New Orleans. More from MSNBC.

This must be a real first in a long time for me.
Spending an entire weekend doing nothing but debating. Yes, my body suffers from the battle-wounds, in the form of peaked tiredness, body-aches, and also, no desire to actually speak to anyone.
On the bright side after debating on the motions, "This house would execute its child molesters", "This house believes that there's too much money in sports", "This house would negotiate with terrorists", "This house would create a common Asian currency" we made it to the semi-finals (we, being Ketzz and I). But at the semi-finals, where the motion was "This house believes that sex is not an art", defined to having American state backed award shows ban artists with discriminatory remarks in their music towards gays and women. Let's just say our very baby fresh, innocent, inexperienced butts were kicked by the very much, well experienced teams.
Nonetheless, reaching the semis was a big achievement. We were congratulated by everyone who thought we had done well for our first ever tournament.
Now I just want to keep quiet.
Very quiet.
(Note: I missed out on an awesome bhangra night because of this...I don't really know what to think...)

What it's like to be tired...

It's absolutely terrible. Even when you have had lovely seven hours of sleep the night before. As long as you face something boring, or brain-consuming, you get tired just waiting doing nothing. Why no concept of conserving energy? Aiyah. Must sleep soon.
